In the present treatment of periodic orbit stability in three-dimensional dynamical systems representing the inner part of a triaxial galaxy, attention is given to the near-spherical systems of prolate or oblate galaxies. The stability of the periodic orbits described in Robe (1985, 1986) is investigated on the basis of the analytical and rigorous perturbation method of Hale (1983) for determining the characteristic exponents of associated variational equations. In the case of the 1:1:1 resonance, the present results agree exactly with those of de Zeeuw (1985).
