Danjon (1920) has reported a correlation between solar activity and the appearance of the moon during lunar eclipses. The validity of Danjon's conclusions is investigated, giving attention to volcanic activity and lunar eclipses observed during the time from 1900 to 1965. The significance of the results of the investigation with respect to the possible causes underlying Danjon's observations are discussed.-
