There is growing evidence that a proportion of GRB-like events occur at relatively low redshifts and have lower luminosities than the cosmological GRBs. Some of these are long-duration bursts which are associated with type-Ibc supernovae, and presumably produced by a similar mechanism to their higher redshift counterparts. Others are short-duration bursts which may well be produced by flares from soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs). I review the evidence for the existence of these various populations, and discuss the implications for progenitor models and their relative number densities.
