Individual enstatite crystals of the aubrites Bustee, Khor Temiki, and Staroe Pesyanoe were investigated from simultaneous track and rare gas analyses to determine the relation between solar flare irradiation and trapped gases. The possible correlation between the abundance of crystals with solar flare tracks and the amounts of light rare gases in bulk samples of gas-rich meteorites was investigated. Within the same crystal, tracks and rare gases were measured for nine enstatites. The results revealed an association of solar flare tracks with implanted helium. The absence of saturation effects and a low degree of elemental gas fractionation indicated low short solar wind exposure times. The paper suggests that gas-rich aubrites are fossil regolith samples. Irradiation of these samples by solar wind particles may have occurred in the asteroid belt between 3.8 and 4.4 b.y. ago.
