The Galactic magnetic field is a fundamental component of the interstellar medium (ISM), yet little is known about its origin, evolution, and distribution. We propose a Southern sky survey of rotation measures (RM) in the frequency range 300 to 900 MHz. The aim is to probe the 3D structure of the magneto-ionic medium (MIM) in our Galaxy. This proposal forms part of an international initiative to make similar surveys of the Northern and Southern sky with the largest single-antenna telescopes, covering 300 to 1800 MHz. This proposal asks for test time on the Parkes Telescope to install a 300 - 900 MHz receiver and observe a test region to prove feasibility. A larger proposal for the actual survey will follow, asking for about 1500 hours, distributed over four semesters.
