The compatibility of the velocity field inside the dominant optical region of NGC 4151 with the assumption of purely rotational motions is investigated. Image tube spectra were taken in 8 different position angles across the galactic nucleus, emissions in the (O III) 5007 A line were traced out to about 4 kpc from the nucleus in the NE and SW directions, and the velocity field at 300 pc was measured from previous spectrograms. The observed shapes of the ionized gas distribution and the inner and outer velocity fields are shown to rule out purely rotational motions and are interpreted by a superposition of rotational motions with a projected axis in the position angle of 120 deg and radial motions in the NE-SW and E-W directions.
