Developed in partnership with the United States Air Force and designed to meet a wide range of space launch needs, the Delta IV Launch Vehicle family is the culmination of an effort focused on improving overall expendable launch system design and operability. Nearing the end of it's development cycle, Delta IV is now readying for it's first launch in 2002. The purpose of this paper is to provide the latest status and outline innovations incorporated into the Delta IV system via design, development, manufacturing and operational capabilities. Specific areas that will be covered include overall design and test philosophy, the RS-68 main engine, the Decatur Manufacturing facility, mission management and launch operations. These parameters, as well as others to be presented, ensure that the Delta IV Launch Vehicle family will be the affordable, high reliability launch solution for decades to come.
