Warner and Fielder1 have referred to their conclusion that the lunar surface was under overall tensional stress at the time of cratering. I have approached the problem of the mode of origin of the lunar surface patterns from a different, purely geological point of view, but my conclusions might perhaps be relevant to the conclusions of these authors.
