A NOAA/NGDC Climate Database Modernization Program (CDMP) project to digitize historical solar images has produced a large online database of daily full disk solar images. The images include the wavelengths Calcium K, Hydrogen Alpha, and white light photos, as well as sunspot drawings and the comprehensive drawings of a multitude of solar phenomena on one daily map (Fraunhofer maps and Wendelstein drawings). Included in the digitization are high resolution solar H-alpha images taken at the Boulder Solar Observatory 1967-1984. H-alpha daily film strips of 12 images taken within seconds of each other are scanned at 4000 pixels per inch 16-bit grayscale. Overexposed images show the solar prominences on the limb of the solar disk. The scanned daily images document many phases of solar activity, from decadal variation to rotation variation to daily changes. Smaller versions are available online. Larger versions are available by request. See http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/stp/SOLAR/ftpsolarimages.html.
