Meteors: Trajectories

Scientific paper

The observed dependence of the average heights of maximum brightness of the super-Schmidt meteors versus its velocity was analysed. On the basis of the physical theory of quasi-continuous fragmentation of meteoroids the theoretical dependence of the heights of the maximum brightness versus its velocity was received. The authors compare observed and theoretical dependences and came to the conclusion that the majority of super-Schmidt meteors is produced by dense meteoroids of ordinary chondrite types (δ≅ 3.5 g/cm3) in the case of slow fragmentation, and carbonaceous chondrites (δ = 1 g/cm3) in the case of fast fragmentation.
