An analysis is made of the formation of a directional motion of matter along the magnetic field lines associated with an increase of the field in the chromosphere. A system of hydrodynamic equations for an ideal gas in a flux tube is solved numerically. A increase in the field with a time constant of less than 300 s is shown to be necessary for the efficient formation of a jet with characteristics of a typical surge.
