Spectra of the old nova GK Per taken at the beginning and during the rise of the 2002 dwarf nova-like outburst reveal that halfway to light maximum, most of the accretion disk had already changed from the ``low'' to the ``high state.'' The evolution of emission-line fluxes, equivalent widths, and FWHMs confirms the dwarf nova nature of the outburst. The emission-line profiles at midrise show the presence of an asymmetric broad component that we interpret as the signature of increased mass accretion onto the magnetic white dwarf.
