It is shown that the spectrophotometric standard star BD+33 deg 2642 is the central star of a planetary nebula (PN). An analysis of the stellar spectrum yields Teff = 21000 K, log g = 3.0 and a stellar mass of 0.558 solar mass. It is shown that the nebular data is in agreement with these stellar parameters. An analysis of the nebular spectrum gives evidence for strongly subsolar metallicity of the PN. Combined with the large height above the galactic plane (z = 2.5 kpc) this indicates that BD+33 deg 2642 is one of the few known population II central stars.
