It has been predicted that supernova rates in starburst galaxies are higher than in our galaxy. However, recent observations may indicate that supernova rates in nearby starburst galaxies are not much higher than in normal spiral galaxies. A study is being done using recent x-ray and gamma -ray data, complimented with previous radio data, to give a better understanding as to the supernova rates in these galaxies. A study was also done to determine whether the discrete x-ray and radio sources in starburst nuclei have different properties than galactic sources. The results may provide important insight into the general evolution of nearby starburst galaxies.
