It has recently been shown that the opacity for astrophysical plasmas are significantly increased by the inclusion of detailed atomic data for iron. These increases can be as large as a factor of four at temperatures near 200,000 K. Due to the very large increase in the opacity of iron and nearby elements over earlier calculations, even elements considerably less abundant than iron also make important contributions. In the present work we have extended the OPAL opacity calculations to include 7 additional elements. Other factors such as improvements in the calculation of the equation of state and line broadening have also effected the results. We have also extended the density range of the tables and increased the number of temperature points. Comparisons will be made with other recent calculations. Work performed under the auspices of the U. S. Department of Energy by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under Contract W-7405-ENG-48.
