The paper presents a search for the effect of closed structures in the IMF on the solar-wind alpha component, i.e., for possible cooling and rarefaction of the alpha particles when they are encircled by the closed structures. Seven isolated events were used for a superposed epoch analysis from a 5-year data set provided by Helios-1 during 20 successive trajectories from 0.3 to 1 AU. A unique behavior of alpha particles inside the magnetically closed structures is revealed which does not rule out their being influenced by such structures. In particular, the temperature decrease of protons, previously associated with closed structures, is shown to apply to alpha particles as well.
