The resonance contributions to excitation rates for He-like ions have been obtained using similar procedures to those used recently for calculating cross sections for direct excitation and ionization by electron impact (Zhang and Sampson 1993, Phys. Rev. A, 47, 208; Sampson and Zhang 1992, Phys. Rev. A, 45, 1657; Fontes, Sampson and Zhang 1993, Phys. Rev. A, 48, 1975). Some comparisons of numerical results are made with other work. This work was supported in part by the U.S. Department of Energy, partially through a Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory subcontract.
