The author sketches some of the progress done in recent years in the observation of high-redshift galaxies, where 'high-z' means everything beyond a lower redshift limit of z = 2. After a section dedicated to untypical galaxies, or to galaxies in a special evolutionary state, which are historically found first due to their brightness, discusses what can be learned from faint galaxy counts entering the z > 2 domain, and the last part presents the rapid progress in the detection and study of 'normal' high-redshift galaxies, at z ranging from 2 to 4.
