Quasar-Galaxy Associations: Redshifts
Scientific paper
Using the new versions of Hewitt-Burbidge QSO Catalogue and all-sky catalogue of Abell clusters (ACO, 1989) and the method of angular cross correlation function the author finds antiassociation between them at separation θ > 3°, which is mainly caused by optically selected QSOs, rather than radio-selected QSOs. This fact is likely to be explained by extinction of the intracluster dust. However, there is not such anticorrelation between QSOs and Abell clusters at θ < 3°, which implies that there is some tendency of association between QSOs and clusters. The author also finds that the correlation is independent on the redshift of QSOs, which is not consistent with the explanation of gravitational lensing effect. Further analysis indicates that the different types of the clusters show different features of association, and QSOs which correlate (or anticorrelate) with clusters are distributed differently in redshift and magnitude distributions.
