A sharp change in the 1977-1980 period has been observed in the series of the first derivatives of the average yearly values of the geomagnetic-field elements. Comparison between the maps for 1974 and 1985 indicates that acceleration changes at the end of the 1970s are primarily determined by a phenomenon analogous to the jerks of 1969 and earlier epochs, and that these changes can also be classified as a jerk. Like the earlier jerks, the jerk of 1977-1980 occurred during the epoch of solar maximum.
