Neutron Stars: Thermal Evolution, Neutron Stars: Magnetic Fields
Scientific paper
The interaction among the thermal, rotational and magnetic evolution of neutron stars is studied. The authors consider such a self-consistent model: neutron stars spin down due to magnetic dipole radiation; this may lead to some heating effects in their interiors; their magnetic fields decay via crustal ohmic dissipation. They show that the field decay enhances the importance of these heating processes; converseley, the heating effects slow down the field decay. Therefore it is inferred that, the thermal, rotational and magnetic field evolution of neutron stars could be interdependent on one another.
