A dynamical model of a dust shell around a Mira variable is presented which includes time-dependent hydrodynamics and, for the first time, a detailed treatment of dust formation, growth and evaporation. It is shown that the interaction between the dynamics of the pulsating atmosphere and the dust complex leads to the generation of shocks due to radiation pressure on dust. Furthermore, the atmosphere turns out to have a discrete shell like structure.
