We propose a deep XMM-Newton observation for the Local Group dwarf elliptical galaxy NGC205, in order to measure the collective X-ray emissivity of its old stellar populations, and to further quantify the dispersion of stellar X-ray emissivity among early-type galaxies. A precise knowledge of this kind is crucial not only for understanding the relevant stellar astrophysics but also for reliably disentangling and quantifying the thermal emission from diffuse hot gas in nearby galaxies.
