In this brief review we discuss different aspects of interaction of long cosmic strings with black holes such as scattering and capture of cosmic strings by a black hole, stationary strings attached to a stationary black hole, and physical properties of a black-hole plus attached string configurations. In particular, it is demonstrated that cosmic strings can be used for very effective energy mining from black holes. We also discuss the backreaction problem and describe solutions of Einstein equations for static black holes with a number of attached radial strings.
