A strong correlation between the equivalent widths of the λ2200 Å absorption band in the interstellar extinction curves and the colour excessesE B-V of the stars was found. The oscillator strength and the damping constant of the λ2200 Å transition were estimated. From these findings some conclusions concerning the identification problem were drawn.
