A recent survey for variable objects using an automated search procedure detected a number of variables for which it was only possible to give a preliminary classification. Many of the sample have now been observed spectroscopically on a large telescope and definite classifications made. Noticeable among these are three cataclysmic variables which according to well defined criteria form a complete sample of such objects. All these cataclysmic variables are very faint, and two of them do not readily fit into any existing category.
