The problem of QSO-galaxy associations is investigated using a list of 112 QSOs having accurate positions and redshifts determined to be z greater than 0.1. The results are analyzed statistically and are considered in the light of Canizares' (1981) findings, which indicate that the large number of QSOs near bright galaxies is due possibly due to a gravitational lens effect on QSOs caused by stars in galactic haloes. It is proposed that the apparent excess of 3C QSOs near bright galaxies is caused by optically variable QSOs contaminating the statistics and corresponding to a specific kind of objects distinct from the other QSOs.
