Observations of PSR 0809+74 are analyzed in order to determine how the energy of the drifting subpulses depends on their migration rate during the time interval P1 (the 1.3 sec main period) as well as over the drift-band interval. It is found that both the difference and the ratio of the energies of successive subpulses tend to increase with their instantaneous drift rate. When the instantaneous drift rate becomes approximately equal to the mean value of the drift rate, the energy ratio is found to change abruptly. The subpulse energy and the instantaneous drift rate are correlated on a time scale approximately equal to (1-2)P1. It is concluded that the statistical correlations obtained between the energies of successive subpulses and their local drift rate will be of value in developing comprehensive models of pulsar radio emission.
