High resolution (15 km/sec) profiles of the forbidden N II gamma = 6584 line in the filaments in W50 are presented. Thyprofiles are complex, broad (typically 50 km/sec), and vary with position in the nebula. The mean (LSR) radial velocity of the peaks of the eastern filaments is within 3 km/sec of 79 km/sec and within 3 km/sec of 54 km/sec for the western filaments. It is suggested that the emission is excited by the relativistic beams from SS 433. It is pointed out that if the radial velocity difference is not caused by inhomogeneities, it may imply that the eastern beam is receding, in apparent disagreement with the orientation found by radio observations.
