Detached extragalactic H II regions are calibrated by means of a method previously developed by Dottori (1981) for the case of the evolution of the equivalent width of the emission line H-beta with age in H II regions. The frequency distribution of ages appears to indicate that some of the regions in question have experienced other bursts of star formation that are as important as that most recently observed.
