High-resolution subionospheric VLF observations at multiple sites in California, Saskatchewan, and Quebec were used to investigate the feasibility of determining the occurrence patterns of Trimpi events over the continental United States and of localizing the affected ionospheric regions. It is shown that observations of signals propagating over distributed sets of subionospheric VLF paths provide a data base which can be used to estimate the spatial distribution and occurrence of lightning-induced electron precipitation effects. Simultaneous observations of individual events on subionospheric paths that 'cross' one another allow localization of the disturbed ionospheric regions.
