Temperature profiles recorded during three comet nucleus simulation experiments conducted by the KOSI (Kometensimulation) team are examined. A model has been developed that is capable of explaining the observed thermal histories of the samples. The model assumes that heat is transferred into the interior by solid-state heat conduction through the ice/dust matrix and by vapor flow driven by internal pressure gradients.
