We investigate the solid state composition of the Homunculus of η Car and confirm the presence of a compact form of aluminum oxide such as corundum. We point out that the uncertainty in the current value of the total dust mass (which is 0.10--0.15 M&sun;) is about a factor of three. As this dust is condensing in a CNO processed environment, the total Homunculus mass of 10--15 M&sun; (assuming a gas-to-dust ratio of 100) possibly is a severe underestimate.
