Radio waves propagating through the ionosphere and troposphere suffer refraction effects. Several correction procedures are used in radio astronomy and satellite geodesy to remove refraction effects as much as possible. Instrumental limitations and the limited accuracy of available atmospheric parameters restrict useful application of several correction methods. The limitations of some methods and prospects for improvement are indicated. Special attention is paid to "self-calibration' techniques.
