Cosmology: Gravitation Theory

Scientific paper

According to Zel'dovich, the energy tensor of the polarized vacuum of quantum field theory implies the existence of a non-zero cosmological Λ term in Einstein's gravitational equation. The author investigates the consequences of Zel'dovich's Λ in a spatially flat isotropic universe with the Hubble parameter H proportional to t-1 (t = the cosmic time); He finds: tH > 2/3, -1 < q < 1/2, Λt2 = constant, Gt = constant, where q is the deceleration parameter and G the gravitational coupling; another result is a mass creation process throughout the universe at the rate 10-47g s-1cm-3. This approach explains two well-known empirical relations connecting microphysics to cosmology.
