Venus, Historical, Biographical: Schroeter, J.

Scientific paper

Visual phase estimates of Venus, mainly at evening apparitions during the period 1897-1990 have been analysed. The average standard deviation of an individual phase estimate is found to be +/-4%. The possible existence of a phase anomaly may be restricted to the range from phase 0.45 to 0.75. However, the statistical significance of the average Schroeter effect, estimated to be 7.3 days before/after dichotomy, remains elusive yet.
