The paper examines some characteristics of Population II star formation that are associated with the low abundances of heavy elements in primeval matter. It is found that Lyman-alpha radiation pressure is important under such conditions, leading to fast, effective fragmentation and blowing off of the outer part of the protostar. The ratio of protostellar to stellar mass is determined, and it is shown that Population II stars larger than about 10 solar masses do not arise during normal evolution. Rotation is found not to have any significant effects on star formation. The origin and evolution of protoclusters is briefly considered.
