Color and black and white photographs are presented which were synthesized from a 21-cm H I survey and which show the distribution of low-velocity as well as positive and negative intermediate-velocity gas at galactic latitudes of 10 deg and higher. The basic character of the H I distribution is discussed, and the data are compared with observations of Ly-alpha absorption, interstellar polarization and extinction, bright and dark nebulae, and LF radio continuum emission. The following observations and conclusions are made: (1) most H I 'clouds' in all velocity ranges appear to be highly elongated and are best described as filaments, (2) the clouds in the region above +10 deg latitude and from 250 to 330 deg longitude appear to be colliding, (3) the previously proposed tilted disk of local gas (the 'Scheve Shijf') does not exist, (4) the H I filaments are aligned with the optical polarization of starlight, (5) the H I distribution is roughly correlated with interstellar extinction, and (6) bright nebulae tend to occur in regions exhibiting H I.
