The present analysis of the relative energy-weighted distance between hadrons and EM particles in the Chacaltaya emulsion chamber experiment notes that the observed number of hadrons accompanying the particles in proximities of less than 1 mm is far larger than that in the background distribution. Since the probability of such a large number of shower-accompanied hadrons is negligibly small, in light of background calculations, it is suggested that there exists an anomalous correlation between hadrons and EM particles in the characteristic spread of atmospheric EM cascades.
