An idealized model of a disk-halo system is described and applied to the study of some fluid dynamical interactions between the gaseous components of a galactic disk and surrounding halo. The azimuthal flow in the vicinity of the disk, the viscosity of the interstellar gas, and a boundary layer structure are characterized. The fluid dynamical equations governing the viscous disk and the inviscid halo regions are solved by means of matched asymptotic expansions. Examples of gas circulation patterns are described; the flows show features that are suggestive of the '3-kpc arm' as well as the 'galactic infall' in the solar neighborhood. The implications of inflection points in the vertical structure of the flow is considered.
