Spectroscopic and photographic observations of Nova Persei 1974 (V400 Per) and Nova Scuti 1975 (V373 Sct) are discussed. Visual light curves are presented along with B and V magnitudes, and the postmaximum spectral evolution of each nova is recounted. It is shown that the two light curves are somewhat similar, with an amplitude of about 11 magnitudes, large fluctuations for several months after maximum, and a moderately fast decline. The spectral evolution during the Orion and nebular stages of both novae is found to have been normal and to have been characterized by the appearance of forbidden lines of medium to high excitation. Some general characteristics of normal novae are briefly noted.
