The dwarf nova SS Cygni was observed by IUE. The UV low resolution spectra show clear differences in the behavior of the accretion disk in quiescence and in outburst. A steady-state disk model can almost fit the continuum of the outburst spectra, while it fails the fit during quiescence phases. In quiescence, accretion disk behavior preserves memory of the preceding outburst. This memory is revealed from a different modulation of the continuum and of the total absolute fluxes of the emission lines versus the orbital period depending on the type of the preceding outburst. The He II 1640 A quiescent equivalent width behavior shows a large spread (0.93 to 23 A), which is consistent with models.
