Ultraviolet IUE spectra and optical data were obtained for early-type supergiants in M31 and M33. The UV and visible data yield consistent values for the effective temperature, bolometric magnitude, and extinction. The stars are classified as late O to early B. The UV resonance lines have very low outflow velocities compared to galactic stars, and no P Cygni profiles, suggesting that there may be significant differences in mass-loss mechanisms among Local Group galaxies. The UV interstellar extinction in both galaxies appears like the Large Magallenic Cloud and not like the Galaxy.
