The detection of the (J, K) = (3, 3) and (4, 4) rotation-inversion lines of NH3 in the central 1 kpc of the nearby spiral galaxy IC 342 and the remeasurement of the (J, K) = (1, 1) and (2, 2) lines are reported. The intensity ratios of these lines confirm that the population among the rotational states can be characterized by a temperature of about 50 K. The gas kinetic temperature can therefore be estimated to be about 70 K. The presence of hot gas in the nucleus of IC 342 is most likely related to the formation of many young OB stars in the nucleus, as indicated by infrared and radio continuum measurements.
