Pointed-mode observations of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 6814 from the HEAO A-1 experiment are presented. The essential features of the light curve are confirmed in the 0.5-20 keV energy range, slightly lower than that of the A-2 experiment. However, the A-1 instrument also detects a charged particle flux incident on the spacecraft. The maxima in the count rates associated with the charged particles occur during each orbit near transits by the spacecraft of the geomagnetic equator. Maxima in the charged particle rates are clearly associated with the minima in the X-ray data which were used to attribute rapid X-ray variability to NGC 68145 by Tennant et al. (1981). For reasons which are discussed, particle contamination of the X-ray data seems an unlikely source of the temporal variations observed. This correlation suggests that the X-ray light curves from both experiments may be affected by an anisotropic, near-earth X-ray background.
