The Cfa sample with its complete redshift data is used to calculate the projected distances in space of its Seyfert and non-Seyfert galaxies from their respective nearest neighbors. Among galaxies with distances to their nearest neighbors of less than 20 kpc, the fraction of Seyferts is as high as 10 percent, strikingly higher than the average value of 3 percent. This shows that the existence of nearby galaxies probably provides a favorable environment for generating Seyfert-type activities.
