New infrared observations of Arcturus with the I2T interferometer, operating at CERGA Observatory, are reported. Bias affecting the visibility curve are carefully analyzed, so that the accuracy of the derived diameter is greatly enhanced. A phi(UD) = 20.36 + or - 0.20 mas and phi(LD) = 20.95 + or 0.20 mas, respectively for the uniform disk and for the limb-darkened disk diameters were obtained. Phi(LD) has been derived by assuming a theoretical limb-darkening function. The effective temperature T(eff) = 4294 + or - 30 K is derived, combining phi(LD) with the integrated flux of Arcturus at the earth. This value of T(eff) is significantly lower than the T(eff) computed by the indirect near infrared method. It is shown that this discrepancy can be removed by applying this method with proper model atmospheres. An important consequence is that the scale of T(eff) for K giants does not require revision.
