Photoelectric absorption curves derived from about 1000 stars yield some 200 estimates for the density of the dust medium toward the Cygnus Local Arm. The form and orientation of the dust-arm density axis, determined to 4-kpc distance from the sun, coincide with the H I filament and with the position of faint OB stars. The arm's maximum-density surface is tilted from the outer to the inner arm edge; the isodensity contours of transverse cross sections are much steeper on the outer side.
