A numerical procedure for establishing a relationship between measured and ideal astronomical coordinates by means of orthogonal polynomials is briefly described. The method was used to reduce astronomical negatives in observations with the wide-angle astrograph of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. A coefficient accounting for the preliminary distortion of measured coordinates was derived from analysis of the cubic polynomial terms.
