Chinese astronomers have developed a method to determine the absolute positions of stars that can be used in both high and low latitudes. This method will enable China to manufacture the meridian circle, a device for working out star catalogs and astronomical refractional tables. The method is also applicable in measuring astronomical refraction, basic to geodetic surveying.
